Song Book, Vol. 1

by Jarrah Thompson

/
1.
Give me strength to be myself Cause I don’t want to be no one else There’s a wind of change blowin’ through my life And I don’t think I’ll do the same thing twice Give me strength to be out on my own Give me strength in this cold and lonely night There’s a wind of change blowin’ through my brain And I don’t think I’ll ever be the same Cause I was only ever good at loving you x 3
2.
I’m just trying to breathe In a world gone mad I’m just trying to get on with it Seek to understand It’s falling away It’s falling away The feeling The memory of you Is this the right way Did I take a wrong turn Time to look inside See what I can learn Hmmm And the tide has Swept us away And the tide has Swept us away When I reached out for you You were not there yeah I reached out for you You were not there It’s falling away It’s falling away The feeling The memory of you
3.
Yeah I’m on the road again Coming out to see you The city lights fade The green hills arise You meet me at the gate Looking like you do Come up and light the fire Get close to you But tomorrow I’ll be gone When The city Calls me home Let’s look at the night sky again The clear milky way Starring at the stars Making up their names I love your smell And your big brass bed But I know when the morning come I’m thinking in my head that tomorrow I’ll be gone When The city Calls me home When the city calls me home Yeah tomorrow I’ll be gone When the city calls you home Yeah tomorrow I’ll be gone
4.
You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold So she took her love For to gaze a while Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold Will you stay with me? Will you be my love? Upon the fields of barley We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we lie in fields of gold See the west wind move like a lover so Upon the fields of barley Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth Among the fields of gold I never made promises lightly And there have been some that I've broken But I swear in the days still left We'll walk in fields of gold We'll walk in fields of gold Many years have passed since those summer days Among the fields of barley See the children run as the sun goes down Among the fields of gold You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You can tell the sun in his jealous sky When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold
5.
When the river flows again You know it When the river flows again You feel it When the river flows again You’ll be swept up in it When the river flows again Just go with it Oh child You must believe it When the river flows again Never fear it

about

Song Book Vol. 1 is the first release of songs recorded at the Aviary Studios, Melbourne in 2022.

The aim was to record everything live - giving the songs a stripped back and honest feel.
The sessions were recorded to 2inch tape and hardly any overdubbing was done.

The songs take meaning from Jarrah's life over the past 2 years, being a song book - exactly what that is - opening up his book of songs and singing them one by one.
